Apr 21: Bambouserai en Cévennes
(Late entry)
In the middle of the 19th century a European adventurer decided to plant a garden of bamboo species in the foothills of the Cévennes mountains, and it is now an attraction with a wide range of bamboo along with other tropical flora, a climbing net that takes you into the canopy, a collection of bonsai, and a recreated Balinese home conztructed of bamboo. I was invited to join our landlady, Sophie, and her friends for lunch and a visit to Bambouserai, and we had just a terrific day. I was challenged to use a lot of French in conversation because there was a spectrum of English fluency among the group, but everybody was generous and kind and made me feel comfortable (with remarkably little visible wincing at my pronounciation). Both the people and the park made for a wonderful day.
